How to create your own skincare routine

How to create your own skincare routine

In a world that doesn’t stop moving, the moments of stillness we have to ourselves can be the most sacred. Whether it comes ahead of the workday or as you unwind in the evening before heading to bed, here at Añuli we see these small windows of time as the perfect opportunity to practice intentional self-care with a personalized skincare routine.

There are multiple benefits to creating a skincare routine: from improving the look and feel of your skin to its ability to help you relax and de-stress. Your routine can be as simple or as elaborate as you like. The important thing is that you establish a routine that you can be consistent with.

The journey to perfecting your skincare routine may involve some trial and error, so here are some tips to make your skincare journey a little bit simpler.

Know your skin type

No single routine will work for everyone, so it's important to identify what works best for your skin type. If you don't know your skin type, you may consult with a dermatologist or esthetician. Once you’re aware, you can craft a regimen that will address your specific concerns.

Generally speaking, if you have dry skin, you'll want to focus on products that will hydrate and nourish your skin while avoiding harsh cleansers and exfoliants, as these can dry you out further.

For oily skin, you may also want to use a water-based moisturizer and chemical exfoliant to help control shine and excess sebum.

For combination skin, find a routine that is in the middle of the road and spot treat appropriately depending on your problem areas. We recommend regularly using a gentle cleanser and a light moisturizer.

If you have “normal” skin, your focus will be maintaining your skin’s natural balance by using gentle cleansers and lightweight moisturizers.

Start with the basics

A simple but effective skincare routine includes a cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen.

Cleansers help remove dirt, oil, and makeup from the skin, leaving it feeling refreshed and clean. Toners help balance the skin’s pH levels and can help control excess oil production. Serums are packed with active ingredients that support the skin’s health and can target specific skin concerns like acne or dullness. Moisturizers provide hydration and can help prevent fine lines and wrinkles. And finally, sunscreen during the day is a must, no matter the weather, in order to protect the skin from harmful UV rays.

Once you have the basics down, you may want to add in other products as needed, but we lean towards the idea of selecting multi-effective products, like our Daily Supplement Serum, so that you can address more of your skin’s needs, with less.

Be consistent

Skincare results take time, so it's important to commit to your routine even when you don't see results immediately.

Determining a precise time of day to perform your skincare routine  will help you to both establish which products you need to use and ensure you don’t forget to take the moment to do so.

We also advocate taking the time to transform your skincare routine into a more holistic self-care moment. Whether that involves lighting a candle, putting on your favorite playlist, or simply basking in the few quiet moments alone. What matters most is that you remember that the best skincare routine is the one that works for you.
